The Chama Valley

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad has some of the most beautiful scenic vistas in the country.

The fall color rides are spectacular. A Historic Landmark the railroad dates back to the 1880's, the total train ride is 64 miles. A buffet lunch is served at the mid-day stopping point.

Both Lake Heron and El Vado are just a short drive from Chama. There are many activities to enjoy out at the lakes. Fishing, boating, swimming, fall salmon snagging, hiking, biking, wildlife and wildflower viewing. Don't miss the fall salmon snagging! The San Juans are home to some of the largest Bull Elk and Bucks in the country. It's not uncommon to see vehicles pulled over all times of the day catching glimpses of these truly majestic creatures. Rio Chama Wildlife Area

Heading west out of Chama the casino is a 30 minute drive. For those of you who feel lucky...and those of you who just want a change of pace. For more information click their link: Wild Horse Casino in Dulce, New Mexico.

Highway 17 Scenic byway has some of the most incredible high-altitude vistas you will ever see. From the wildflower filled meadows to the tall craggy mountains, it's a photographers paradise. Cumbres Pass tops out at 10,022 elevation. Cumbres & Toltec even occasionally has a "wildflower ride" where they have a field guide on board for the journey and viewing experience.

Downtown Chama has some cute shops and eateries. Our new coffee shop has some delicious coffees, that even the most discriminating palettes will enjoy. Local New Mexico fare is served up at several of our local restaurants.
